Installing a granite tribute:
Mary Slessor Memorial
Union Terrace Gardens, Aberdeen
The Mary Slessor Memorial in Union Terrace Gardens, Aberdeen, honours the Scottish missionary Mary Slessor (1848 to 1915), who worked in Calabar, Nigeria, and is commemorated on the Clydesdale Bank £10 note. Working for the artist, we installed the granite memorial and its circular granite sett setting.

BeforeAfter

The challenge
The heavy granite memorial had to be transported, manoeuvred and set accurately in a public garden.
Our solution
We set out and cast a concrete foundation, cut and laid the circular granite sett surround, then lifted and installed the granite memorial onto its base, secured with stainless steel starter bars.
Outcomes
Securely installed
Granite memorial fixed to a concrete base with stainless steel starter bars.
Crafted setting
Circular granite sett foundation cut and laid by LTM masons.
A public landmark
A lasting tribute in the heart of Aberdeen.
