Scope
High level access survey, rectified photographic record, costed repair scope

LTM Consultancy was appointed by Lambert Smith Hampton, on behalf of their client, to carry out a high level access survey of the stonework to a prominent corner building on Castle Street in Forfar.

The challenge

The owner needed to know what the stonework required, and when, so that costs for the work could be obtained. The building stands on one of Forfar’s primary shopping streets, so the survey had to be organised to avoid disrupting the public.

Our solution

We carried out the survey from a cherry picker over two Sundays, when the street was quiet. Every stone was inspected to assess the repair requirements in the short, medium and long term. The building was photographed carefully and the survey findings were overlaid onto digitally rectified images, giving a clear visual and practical picture of the scope of repairs. While high level access was in place, we also carried out localised repairs: a number of loose and delaminating stones were carefully removed, vegetation was cleared, exposed open joints were pointed and the gutters were cleaned out.

Outcomes

Repairs sorted by priority

Short, medium and long term requirements gave the owner a basis for planning and budgeting.

A visual record

Survey information overlaid on rectified photographs shows exactly where the work is needed.

Safer street, no disruption

Loose stones were removed during the survey, and Sunday working kept the high street clear.
